NS Series Low Frequency Sonar Amplifiers

NS72-36 Hull Mounted Sonar Amplifier

NS72-36 The NS72-36 amplifier is a drop-in replacement for in-use hull mounted sonar units. It features 36 amplifier modules in a single 72″ high rack package to deliver 36 channels in the same footprint as the original amplifier and power supply.

The unit is 50% lighter and 40% less volume than original amplifiers or other replacement amplifiers. Additional channels can be added if required. The NS72-36 has analog and optional digital audio inputs to work with any existing controller system, plus an optional IP port to operate as a network-controlled sonar transmitter. Configurable alarms are included.

Nautel HMS transmitters achieve their light weight by using switch mode power supplies (SMPS). State-of-the-art silicon carbide FETs deliver 2 kW per channel capability at high efficiency. Standard output bandwidth is 2 KHz to 12 KHz, with options to extend the range up or down. Overall efficiencies of 85% result in low cooling requirements.

These amplifiers meet or exceed warship environmental requirements with partial/typical MIL STD shock, vibration, EMI and power supply filtering testing. A compliant shock absorber base is required for most installations. Servicing of all modules is conveniently performed through the front door panel.

NS10 to NS60 Power Amplifiers

NS10 to NS60 Nautel’s family of configurable high power amplifiers deliver energy for LFA projectors. The standard frequency range is 800 Hz to 5 KHz. Lower and higher ranges can be configured as options. Optional ranges include seismic frequencies to high frequency sonars. The amplifiers can be used for other high power applications.

The amplifier modules are a 5 kW H bridge with silicon carbide FETs, and can handle both inductive and capacitive reactive loads. The amplifier modules are paired with switch mode power supplies and an output transformer, which forms the building block for the modular family of amplifiers. A Nautel DSP-based exciter drives all the amplifier modules. The overall efficiency is 85% or better, resulting in low cooling requirements. Air cooling is standard and water cooling is an option.

The NS Series of LFA Amplifiers supports output configurations from one output per module, to any combination of modules up to a single high power output. An NS60 has 12 modules and delivers 60 kW output, while the NS10 has two module sets and delivers 10 kW output.

Nautel amplifiers are typically 50% lighter and 40% less volume than other amplifiers, and meet or exceed MIL STD typical warship environmental testing for shock, vibration, power supply filtering and EMI.

Thermal Wall Amplifier Module

Thermal Wall Amplifier Module The Thermal Wall Amplifier module fills a niche in the marketplace for an easily packaged sea water cooled broadband amplifier module. It comes as a 5.7″ (145mm) diameter by 12″ (305 mm) long package that will slide into a 6″ pipe housing to save costs.

This amp is broadband ready from 400 Hz to 12 kHz with analog and digital inputs, a full DSP implemented exciter, and an onboard power converter to allow powering direct from 28 volts DC.
